Semiconductor devices

Aim of the research area semiconductor devices is the fabrication of power devices. Structures are optimized regarding their performance and reliability and then manufactured at the cleanroom facility BRNC. The influence of processing optimizations is evaluated via simulation.

Silicon Carbide

One of the most promising new semiconductor materials for power electronics is silicon carbide (SiC). This wide bandgap semiconductor allows for much higher operating voltages and frequencies, opening up possibilities for new applications and enabling smaller and more efficient power converters.

The APS is currently working on developing new devices and establishing a SiC MOSFET manufacturing process at BRNC.
